A quick guide

Use the number with context

The answer is only useful when you know what it includes and what it leaves out.

How to use it

  1. Enter monthly arpu using the same period and unit as the other inputs.
  2. Enter gross margin using the same period and unit as the other inputs.
  3. Enter base monthly customer churn using the same period and unit as the other inputs.
  4. Enter low churn scenario using the same period and unit as the other inputs.
  5. Enter high churn scenario using the same period and unit as the other inputs.
  6. Choose churn stability using the option that matches your scenario.

Formula

Illustrated LTV = monthly ARPU × gross margin ÷ monthly customer churn.

The range shows sensitivity to churn assumptions; it is not a precise forecast of future cash flows.

Make it concrete

Worked example

₹2,000 ARPU at 70% gross margin and 5% monthly churn illustrates ₹28,000 of LTV.

Boundaries

What this tool does not assume

Limitations

  • The simple model excludes expansion, contraction, retention curves, cohorts, refunds, taxes and discounting.
  • Churn must be observed and stable enough for the scenario to be useful.

Edge cases

  • Zero or unstable churn is not treated as infinite or certain LTV.
  • Low and high churn must bracket the base churn.

Questions

Frequently asked

Why does churn dominate LTV?

The simple model divides contribution per customer by monthly churn, so small churn changes can materially change the illustration.

Is this a forecast?

No. It is a sensitivity scenario based on your ARPU, margin and churn assumptions.
