A quick guide

Use the number with context

The answer is only useful when you know what it includes and what it leaves out.

How to use it

  1. Enter period length in months using the same period and unit as the other inputs.
  2. Enter total cash outflows using the same period and unit as the other inputs.
  3. Enter total cash inflows using the same period and unit as the other inputs.

Formula

Gross burn/month = outflows ÷ months; net burn/month = (outflows − inflows) ÷ months

Net burn is average monthly cash consumption after inflows; negative burn means the scenario generates cash.

Make it concrete

Worked example

₹4,50,000 outflows and ₹1,50,000 inflows across 3 months produce ₹1,00,000 net burn per month.
